Jacob Blake released from hospital, transferred to rehab in Chicago

KENOSHA WI – Jacob Blake, the 29 year-old-man whose shooting by police touched off days of violent riots in Kenosha, WI has been released from the hospital and transferred to “ a spinal injury rehabilitation center in Chicago “ his attorney Patrick Cafferty confirmed.

Cafferty declined to say exactly when the transfer occurred or how long he is expected to remain at the rehabilitation clinic.

The altercation with police culminated with Blake being shoot 7 times. Patrick Salvi Jr., another family attorney, said the shooting left him suffering injuries to his arm, kidney, liver, and spinal cord. Attorney Ben Crump said it would take a “miracle” for Blake to walk again, a slight departure from the families early statement that he was paralyzed from the waist down with it being unclear if the paralysis was permanent.

The City of Kenosha, and its residents, suffer their own lasting wounds from the riots that followed the altercation. With businesses being burned and looted, citizens being beaten and robbed. Notably, on the second night of riots, Kyle Rittenhouse would shoot 3 men, killing 2. He is still awaiting extradition from Illinois on several felony counts, including Felony Murder.

Jacob Blake was able to get the warrant that was active at the time of the altercation rescinded, however he still has an open criminal case against him, stemming from an earlier altercation with the mother of his children.

After public outcry when it was learned that Blake was handcuffed to his hospital bed after the altercation, the local DA’s officer arranged for the warrant that was active for him at the time to be converted to a signature bond. As part of the condition of he bond, he can not have any “violent” contact with the victim, he may only leave the state for medical treatment and he cannot possess any weapons.

Jacob Blakes’ next court appearance is before the honorable Bruce E. Schroeder at 1:30 pm on October 21st 2020. It is on the docket as Final Pre-Trial. The docket currently shows a Jury Trial scheduled for November 9th, 2020 at 9 am.
